A Moreau-yosida Approximation Scheme for High-dimensional Posterior and Quasi-posterior Distributions

چکیده
Exact-sparsity inducing prior distributions in high-dimensional Bayesian analysis typically lead to posterior distributions that are very challenging to handle by standard Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods. We propose a methodology to derive a smooth approximation of such posterior distributions. The approximation is obtained from the forward-backward approximation of the Moreau-Yosida regularization of the negative log-density. We show that the derived approximation is within a factor O( √ γ) of the true posterior distribution, where γ > 0 is a usercontrolled parameter that defines the approximation. We illustrate the method with a variable selection problem in linear regression models, and with a Gaussian graphical model selection problem.

Moreau-Yosida Regularization in State Constrained Elliptic Control Problems: Error Estimates and Parameter Adjustment
An adjustment scheme for the regularization parameter of a Moreau-Yosida-based regularization, or relaxation, approach to the numerical solution of pointwise state constrained elliptic optimal control problems is introduced. The method utilizes error estimates of an associated finite element discretization of the regularized problems for the optimal selection of the regularization parameter in ...
متن کاملOn the Contraction Properties of Some High-dimensional Quasi-posterior Distributions
We study the contraction properties of a class of quasi-posterior distributions Π̌n,d obtained by combining a quasi-likelihood function and a sparsity inducing prior distribution on R, as both n (the sample size), and d (the dimension of the parameter) increase. We derive two general results that highlight a set of sufficient conditions under which Π̌n,d puts increasingly high probability on spar...
متن کاملSufficient Optimality Conditions for the Moreau-yosida-type Regularization Concept Applied to Semilinear Elliptic Optimal Control Problems with Pointwise State Constraints∗
We develop sufficient optimality conditions for a Moreau-Yosida regularized optimal control problem governed by a semilinear elliptic PDE with pointwise constraints on the state and the control. We make use of the equivalence of a setting of Moreau-Yosida regularization to a special setting of the virtual control concept, for which standard second order sufficient conditions have been shown. In this paper we provide implementable methods for solving nondifferentiable convex optimization problems. A typical method minimizes an approximate Moreau–Yosida regularization using a quasi-Newton technique with inexact function and gradient values which are generated by a finite inner bundle algorithm. For a BFGS bundle-type method global and superlinear convergence results for the outer ite...
